Yachting industry, in particular, the yacht chartering side, is fairly unregulated and many people and online entitities can and do present themselves as yacht charter brokers. There are many ‘self-appointed’ experts in the sector, some of whom might actually be good, but it should send out warning signals to clients if these brokers do not hold membership in one or more internationally recognized yachting associations such as TYBA. Such a commitment not only serves as proof that the broker in question is, or belongs to, a legal entity but it also ensures that this broker is up to date with the latest developments in the sector.
Working with a TYBA Member does not guarantee that you will have the best yachting vacation of your life, but it will ensure that you will be working with someone that has already been vetted and who is obliged to follow a certain code of ethical conduct as required by TYBA. If you chose to work with a TYBA Member you will have a better chance of finding the right person for the right job.
